Around midday the thermometer in Vienna reads a little over 11 °C under a nearly clear sky, though the northerly wind makes it feel more like 8. Not much more is on offer: the afternoon peaks at 15 °C before thick cloud rolls in from the north around 15:00. The evening stays grey but dry, and no rain is expected before Tuesday noon.

The night remains mostly cloudy and cools to around 7 °C, with clearer spells towards morning.

Tuesday starts at about 8 °C with a few lingering clouds, then brightens up during the morning. The wind is the story: it swings round to the south-east and gusts reach around 39 km/h by midday. It stays dry, and at 15 to 17 °C the day feels milder than today.

Wednesday brings the mildest air of the week at 21 °C, but also the first substantial rain in more than a week and much stronger gusts. Thursday drops back to 14 °C with more rain and a stiff wind, before Friday turns sunny again at 16 °C. The weekend looks cooler and more unsettled, with 13 °C and plenty of cloud on Saturday and rain on Sunday.

Weather data for the past seven days shows Vienna consistently mild, with highs between 16 and 19 °C and barely a drop of rain. Today's 14.5 °C is therefore a sharp step down rather than a change of direction: Tuesday already climbs back to 17 °C. The wet and windy weather only arrives midweek, when rain sets in on Wednesday and Thursday brings gusts of up to 63 km/h. A heat spell is a distant prospect in Vienna in October.

A light north to north-westerly wind of 8 to 11 km/h with gusts near 26 km/h blows today. On Tuesday it turns south-easterly and picks up markedly from mid-morning, with gusts to 39 km/h – noticeable on the bike and on open stretches and bridges. Wednesday and Thursday bring stronger gusts still, at 54 and 63 km/h.
