Foehn
Wind
Foehn is a wind on the lee side of a mountain range. Descending air can warm while its relative humidity decreases.
Descending air
Its effects depend on the airflow, moisture and terrain. Foehn can bring clearer skies and good visibility, but also cloud and strong gusts. Conditions in valleys, on summits and in the foreland can differ considerably.
In Munich
Alpine views and city weather
Foehn can bring clearer skies and good visibility to the northern Alpine foreland, but the airflow can also carry substantial cloud. A clear mountain view alone therefore does not provide a complete forecast for Munich.
Check current wind, cloud and official warnings for everyday decisions. Conditions in Alpine valleys can differ considerably from those in the city.
