In the summer of 2007, I ended up in Hannover for three months. Yes, things work differently here in Lower Saxony than they do in Vienna. I noticed it as soon as I arrived: the plane actually landed five minutes early. That practically never happens, especially during the holiday season.
The omnipresent king
King Ernst August reigns supreme over the city. He really is everywhere. There’s the Ernst-August-Oper (the opera house), the Ernst-August-Apotheke (a pharmacy), Ernst-August-Platz (the station square), the Ernst-August-Galerie (a shopping arcade), Ernst-August-Fußpflege (chiropody), the Ernst-August condom and so on. Here’s the photographic evidence – the Ernst-August-Denkmal (the equestrian statue at the railway station) is just above, with the rest in the gallery at the end of the post.
For anyone who’s genuinely interested: here’s the Wikipedia link for the current Ernst August (as of 2007). And here’s the essential information about Hannover:
And a King George
Well, I found King George too, complete with his own street and square.
So – this is where I’m staying:
Hotel-Restaurant Römerkrug.
