Monday is ending dry in Cologne: at 17:30 the thermometer reads 16 °C, and it will slide to 11 °C by 21:00.

Cloud has thickened in the meantime.

The night stays dry, and under mostly overcast skies the temperature drops to 7 °C towards morning.

The easterly wind picks up, with gusts of up to 24 km/h.

The morning still belongs to the calm autumn weather: it stays dry, the sun comes through at times, and temperatures peak at 14.5 °C.

Between 16:00 and 21:00 rain sets in, around 4 mm in total, with the south-easterly wind gusting to 32 km/h.

Wednesday brings rain from midnight until noon, around 8 mm with a probability of up to 99 per cent, and at 15.5 °C it will feel slightly milder again.

From Thursday the air cools: no more than 11.5 °C with gusts to 40 km/h. Friday and Saturday look wet and blustery, with gusts of 64 to 65 km/h, and Sunday brings the heaviest rain at 22 mm and gusts near 70 km/h.

After a grey Sunday of 12.7 °C and barely two hours of sunshine, Monday was far brighter, with 16.5 °C and eight hours of sun.

Tuesday splits along similar lines: the morning stays quiet, while the evening already belongs to the wet spell that carries on almost without a break from Wednesday.

Friday turns windy and cooler, and daytime highs will mostly sit between 11 and 15 °C next week; only around 27 October do the models hint at milder values near 18 °C again, which remains an uncertain trend.

The wind turns east to south-east on Tuesday and blows at 15 to 17 km/h, gusting to 32 km/h, most likely in the afternoon.

That is noticeable on open stretches and bridges, where an umbrella quickly becomes a nuisance.
