Cologne stays grey and cool through midday: at 11:15 the thermometer reads 10°C, and it will not climb beyond 12°C all day. A light north-westerly and thick cloud keep the sun away entirely.

It stays dry into the evening, then light rain sets in at 21:00 and lasts until midnight – though it will not amount to much.

The night stays unusually mild for mid-October at 11 to 12°C while the rain clears by midnight. The wind then swings to the south-east and picks up sharply, with gusts of up to 44 km/h towards morning.

Monday starts dry at around 11°C and is already milder by mid-morning than Sunday was at any point. By noon it reaches 15°C, the afternoon brings 18°C, and with barely any cloud there should be nine hours of sunshine.

Tuesday stays pleasant at 16°C and largely dry. Rain arrives on Wednesday, around 9 mm with only just over three hours of sunshine, and Thursday calms down only briefly at 12°C. Friday turns wet and blustery again, with gusts of up to 69 km/h and 11 mm of rain.

For mid-October this is less an outlier than the shift into the cooler season. Monday's 18°C is a mild interlude rather than a turn, with rain returning from Wednesday.

Today the wind is light from the north-west at 7 km/h with gusts around 15 km/h. Overnight it turns south-easterly and strengthens, with gusts of up to 44 km/h around midnight; that will be noticeable on open roads on the city's edge, and loose items on balconies are best secured. Monday brings a moderate south-easterly with gusts near 23 km/h.
